L&V - No mods anymore....

Postby jaycee » Wed Nov 24, 2004 6:13 pm

Rang L&V to see if they would match or beat Tesco's quote and they're not interested. Also they no longer insure modified vehicles. That was the deciding factor in whether I would stay with L&V or not, need cover for wheels, exhaust and springs.
I'm going to ring a few other places now and see if I can get a better deal than Tesco's.

:D good job not going to do anything to the car then, at least they can't say anything to me next year, when it's renewal time. :D

In the event of a major claim, I would remove them if I was you. Hopefully this will never occur.

Apparently not. It's company policy to not take on new business or renewals with mods.

It's not worth not declaring everything. Has or will your remap bump your premium up much Brian?

Do you think we can play the "optional extras" card?
What about fully loaded BM's, you have to add it all on, or is it done at the factory therefore getting round it?

I've often wondered about that. What if you buy a second hand car and don't know the original spec. If it has an uprade you wouldn't know. Would the insurers try to get out of a claim?

Sounds bad for UK spec cars with a few extras. How about imports with extras. They are going to find it harder and harder to insure.

I think the insurance companies are already dropping ''standard'' grey imports bit by bit.The chav element seem to be buying and crashing the early WRX's and this is causing problems for all Subaru owners.

Are we going back to the days when the likes of Cosworth's, Lotus Carlton's,etc were virtually un-insurable?

I've got a WRX with PPP and if my memory serves me right that is from Germany. L&V were the easy option for insurance. Oh Joy, can't wait for that one to come round again. The mods issue hadn't come into play when I renewed the insurance at the beginning of OCT04

I'm going to call L&V again today and ask them to define ''modifications''.
I want to know if they think when we use the term mods, we mean stick-on bits from Halfords rather than genuine Subaru parts.
Here's a thought......
The WR1 doesn't leave the factory in the spec the customer receives it.
You order it and then they swap the wheels, exhaust, ecu and suspension.

But it is listed as the final model with all the bits on with the insurance companies.

Try and confuse them by saying, "Good morning, I own a Subaru Impreza STI. I'd like to know your policy on mods" They'll be stumped!

Best to ring them 2 or 3 times. I bet you'll get a different answer each time!
