Remap

Does a Remap make that much difference ?

Who has had it done and what difference did it make?

Is it worth it?

Looking to get mine done next week - just asking for feed back really.

How is everyone????

I have been at roger Clark motorsport for most of today watching a couple of mates get their cars remapped,very impressive set up they have there. I spoke to the guy who was doing the mapping and he reckons even with just a cat back exhaust you would notice the difference, more power and torque with the boost coming in earlier but still very useable. One of my mates cars made 454bhp but he has done loads to it not a wr1 tho and the other came out with 342 so both very happy

Yep I am tempted after talking to them,nothing mega but in the future a remap is certainly an option. Seeing my mates cars going at full chat on a dyno was good. And Duncan that was doing the mapping is one of the best in the business from what I have been told. Need to save some cash tho

I'm with Simon on this one. Car standard form 316bhp what's the extra HP going to achieve after remap? I think the extra 20 to 40HP gained is going to give a marginal difference over the standard performance figures, not worth the f*cking about in my opinion :shock:

Remapping the standard WR1 can make it smoother but not really give it much noticeable power gain. You need to tweak the exhaust if budget permits to get a noticeable gain. :)

Talking to Duncan the other day he said that the wr1oc had a dyno day a while back and only a few made over the 300bhp mark. Might be interesting to arrange another dyno day to see what power we all have

I had #438 dyno'd a few months before I sold it, completely standard, full history and 40k and it made 296bhp, it was in 28dehree heat though and 38degree intake temps

Yes I've seen this before. The bench mark car used in the initial advert and setup may have produced 316HP So where does the etc 16HP come from over the standard PPP producing 296HP :ok:

WR1 was supposed to have its own map producing a bit more power but most make around 300ish in standard form. I know of one which came with a wrx turbo for whatever reason so was way down on power.

Dont go chasing figures, if the car drives nicely and you like it then be happy with it whatever power level its at :)

How many none sporty road cars dont make their quoted power figures?

Way back in 2004 we had a dyno day up in Norwich,there must have been 25+ WR1s turn up,and I think none made more than 212 bhp just a bit down on what they should be, mine only made 206bhp as it had a de-catted downpipe but had not had the map tweaked to go with it.
First mods are usually a decatted exhaust,induction kit and fuel pump, and a re-map,that should get you approx 350bhp.
Paul Blamire is in my opinion the best mapper out there,RCM use him for their Race-cars so thats good enough for me.
Just talk to people and do your homework before you start,it can be costly but good fun and rewarding too.

No - its at the garage now... just waiting to see.

Wish I had it on a rolling road first - just to see what it was producing before hand.

I surprised to see that none got more than 212 bhp.... :suss:

i had mine remapped in july 2012. cost £500.
i won't deny.... i was apprehensive & pessimistic prior to spending the cash, but warmed to the idea after speaking to my local specialist (now ceased trading) :cry:
i wasn't chasing any big numbers & have no plans to do any additional engine mods.
after remap my figures read....336bhp / 309ft/lb.
standard car otherwise. well maintained.
the remap didn't affect the mpg - remains the usual circa 18 - 22!
the most noticeable (and hugely pleasing) change, is the better driving experience in 3rd & particularly 4th gear. the car is able to stay in 4th for more of the time when travelling 55+mph.
i live on the border of the brecons & enjoy the twisty b roads this area offers. i no longer have to change down to safely overtake or hurtle between the corners.
we all know it's a quick car in standard guise, but after my remap, it's even better.
[note: i speak in terms of fast road use only (not track)]

Got mine booked in for Friday - Duncan RaceDynamix. Whilst I know what your saying Gary, I'm intrigued to see what the difference is. 316 is more than plenty for the road but I'm going to do a couple of track days so figure there no harm in seeing what she can do. I'm not going to rag the crap out of it but what I'm hoping for is an earlier power delivery and getting the most out of the turbo. You do 'normalize' to the cars performance, so a little remap will give me the new car buzz (I hope).

Good luck with Duncan's remap, let us know how the car feels afterwards. You should find mid range 3rd/4th gear are stronger and more responsive :)

I'm not with the car today but just got a text from Duncan (RaceDynamix) and she made 346bhp - Well chuffed. Not sure what she was running before. Will update later in the day when I have all the details and see how differnt it feels.

Ok, so I got home not had a chance to speak to Duncan but looks like she was only putting out 271 bhp prior to the map. Not sure why. It's weird as my first WR1 which had 80k+ and was a bit tired did go like stink, and I wondered if it had been mapped. But then I thought that the suspension was worn and my new 1 has anti lift and Whitline ARB's so i was thinking the set up was firmer and you didn't feel the lift under acceleration as much. But clearly it's been running down on power.

So I've given her a first run. On start up you can tell something as changed, it feels like is sparks into live with a bit more urgency. Pull away, again a different feel to the car, the throttle response is crisp and much more instant that prior to the map. I gave it a little run down to a local by-pass to get things warmed up. Not even giving it full beans the car feels a lot more smother. Looking back at the way the car drove before there is a slight delay in throttle response and then the car previously felt like you had 'steps' of power. Everything now is flowing freely and its much tighter like a taught rubber band. Before you had to wait a tiny fraction of a second for the throttle response or for the boost to kick in. You kind of modify your driving around it sub-consciously . In gear acceleration is much better (should be with 75bhp more!!) and it feels quicker. She feels like she wants to play and is happy in the 4-6k band. However the initial lasting impression is the detailing of the map and the sharpening of the engine and smoothing out of the power delivery is equally as good as the increase in power. I think on a track that smoothness will pay dividends but even for an every day drive it just seems better than the original map. Weirdly I do like turbo lag, that feeling of a wave of torque but I am very very pleased with the result. It's the first map I have ever had done and I would HIGHLY recommend it. I think that's enough BHP for me for now. And this year at Brunters I hope not to get out dragged by an E46 M3 like last year!!

Wow cant believe some cars are so slow before getting remap'd More WRX speed than Sti speed in some cases going by this thread.

My first remap made the car smoother but didnt feel a lot quicker so mine must of been putting out fairly good power initially. Then the modding bug took over and before you know it you will be in the over 400bhp club :)

Remaps are good but like I asked above, do you have any gauges to monitor boost?

I've got boost, oil temp and volts (I know would be better to be oil pressure). Anything I should look out for on the boost? I was surprised how below std it was - will try and find out from Duncan why that was.

Great results but this makes me think as quoted in previous threads these cars never produced 316hp in the first place :(

252HP :wtf: on a standard car........... Have prodrive been telling us porkies :?: mmmm miss selling a product! can we claim compensation to pay for a remap......

Mine goes like stink in standard form but as the results suggest I maybe running 260hp ish, so to gain another 75hp with a remap, the car would be an animal :shock:
