As you are all aware these Pirellis that are on the wr1 offer no protection to the alloys from kerbing and it seens like quite a few of us have found out the hard way. Have looked at the Goodyear Eagle F1 and it offers quite a lip to protect the rim, good reputation but supposed to wear quite quickly compared to others. While I was there I also looked at the Avon ZZ3 which has an even bigger lip to protect the rim (and a harder side wall with less give) Both of these manufactures websites emphasises the rim protection lip, what I would like to know is, has anyone any experiences or thoughts on the Avon ZZ3 My thinking is that its going to be cheaper to change the Pirrellis than damage any more rims.

Dave, F1's all the way! They may wear quickly (I haven't found this to be the case) but the soft compound gives excellent grip in wet or dry. They are shite in the snow though!!

the F1 for sure the tvr would have been backwards several times without them and i find they are not wearing too quickly but then i have only done about 1000 miles on them........ mostly sideways

No track days, but driven hard on the road. The F1's really are the best tyres for a Subaru in terms of feel, grip and value for money.

From the look of the tread pattern that tyre looks like it'll stick to the road like glue!!
How good is it and what's it like in the wet?

Dont waste any more time just get Michelin Pilot Sports2. They have excellent all weather grip and a decent wheel protection lip.
I am the chosen one remember

And they're shite Dave!! Apart from the RE 070 or whatever it's called, foreign market only. The last time Bridgestone made a good tyre was the SO2 PP.

Dunno which they were, I know they used to stick well tho, Seems like everyone has their favorites, so is it a case of all being good and advertiseing / habit / price influence us as buyers IF one was exceptional, we would all be using them and manufactures would fit them to increase their cars roadholding reputation Dave
