Xenon Headlights WR1

Postby spraggol » Tue Jul 07, 2009 11:32 am

Hi Guys, Looking at buying a WR1 soon. Do they come with Xenon headlights as standard or was this an optional extra?

WR1 does not have Xenons and it was not an option. Imports of the same age have Xenons. IIRC the Xenons came in with the Hawkeye STi on the UK range.

Correct. And what a difference they make. The standard lights on the WR1 are not great. Dig through the forum, I'm sure people have upgraded them

Make sure your MOT man is either dense or will pass it for you... I heard legally for an MOT if u have xenons that you have to have them auto levelling and also you must have washer jets to clean them.

Luv the Xenons on the ST thought they really make a huge distance :)

yep, legally Mega is spot on.

Althought the detail 'yoda' clarke has converted to HID without too many issues. And does look far better for it.

Just take it to your ( Friendly mot station  ) You have got to have them i got some of scooby.net on group buys of bob5 they are a slim line version & are easy to fit & wow do they make a difference the only problem i have is when i drive my van at night now it makes you want them in everthing due to how c**p standard lights really are !

Just about to order a HID kit..

To achieve xenon all round ie. xenon side lights, xenon dipped lights and xenon driving lights do I need 3 individual kits?

Why do they fail the MOT?

oh its going back a bit now but if you have xenon hids installed by law u need to have auto levelling devices with them so that you cant manually aim them up and blind people given they are ultra bright - they must have some kind of gyroscope sensor or something with them.. And secondly if you have them i believe the mot laws say you must have light washer jets to keep them clean. I think most forget about the washers when installing them thus the failing mot or something...

I've had HID's for couple of years, MOT no probs. and don't get flashed by other drivers. Just keep beam on low setting in traffic and raise up on open roads. The main is terrific improvement. Enjoy.
