Was going to work as normal this morning on auto-pilot and turned down a fairly steep hill away from any civilisation... when i saw a community support officer on the other side of the road walking up hill giving me the thumbs up and nodding to me.

I nodded back and revved it past him showing off as ya do.

Bugger me if round the blind corner there werent three more of them stood in a huddle with a speed trap gun and clipboard.

Naturally I put on the anchors but they appeared to write down my reg plate anyway... doh!


I take it CSO's have the power to do you for "speeding"?

Cheap tactics to give you the thumbs up like that and egg you on

Most only just have the power to breath so I wouldn't worry about it.

I know but some people at work have said theyve been done in the past by them for speeding... serves me right for showing off like that - but its annoying that the CSO egged me on like he did and that i stupidly took the bait.

They only have the power to report you to the police, the police can only caution you because they never collected the evidence directly themselves.

I don't believe that as a member of the public (as PSO's essentially are) they are approved for prosecution by the courts. The only people who can use these mobile traps with intended prosecution are the police themselves and also fixed speed cameras approved by the courts.

Been in the same position about a year ago heard nothing you will be fine. Cops may come to your door but would be warning nothing more.

Community officer may as well be you or me.

So next time really floor it and get their average speed recorded up!!!!

They are a bunch of effin jobsworths

They are in the same mould as traffic wardens

they love thier job and each other

As others have said they are just civilians that look like Police and have no powers.

I would expect you will get a letter of warning in the post as a slap on the wrist and that you will be caught eventually if you continue to drive in such a wreckless manner

Local residents have been given speed guns and yellow jackets in some of the villages in our area and I am informed that they take your number and the police write to you saying something similar.

PCSOs are a waste of space when it comes to anything more than mincing around the town looking like they own the place
