Too fast to race

Postby Smatt » Tue Dec 21, 2004 11:35 am

Having seen the Evo against the Quattro on top gear this week, it makes me wonder wether Group B has been toppled. The current Impreza WRC has figures of 340/50bhp & 600nm (about 450lb/ft I think). Combining this with anti-lag & the host of electronics etc, How fast are today's current cars?

How fast could they be with a relaxing of regulations.

The thought of being in a car with Petter would be unbeleavable.

I suppose we all have our dreams, and I better keep on dreaming.

I could imagine the figures would be awesome if the regs were changed to allow maximum bhp/torque out of the existing engines. Reliability wouldn't need to be an issue as the engine is only used for 1 event.
I would guess they would run at around 600bhp. 8) 8)

They were running them figures 20 years ago in the group B cars plus the event mileage was 2 to 3 times what it is today

The DVD / Video "Too fast to Race" about group B cars is well worth watching.

The cars Top Gear tested together was an unfair comparison IMO as it was on a track and the 20 + year olds (quattro and escort) were built for stage rallying,
