Evo faults: The list begins...

PostPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2007 5:42 pm

Following a few PM's between Spike and myself, we've decided it would be amusing for the Evo owners to list the annoying faults they've had with their cars. So here's a few to get us started...

1. The Speedo fails intermittently.

2. Rear fog light indication lamp (dashboard) doesn't work when the car gets warm......but, is fine up to that point. :cuckoo:

3. SmartNav activates the alarm at 01:30 am!

Please feel free to submit your own......I will add more as the thread progresses.

I haven't really encountered difficulties as such.

However ! The geometry is an issue, i think this needs doing again for the 3rd time! there is an annoying squeek from the passenger seat when there's someone sitting in it, and there's another annoying squeek coming from....somewhere else, dunno where !

My Geometry needs looking at too!

OK, virtually none of these sh1te issues. No clue what you guys bought.

My only "faults":

1. The spunge indeed catches onto the X when washing. Be careful.

2. Door locks froze a few times which disabled central locking (only when colder than -30C).

3. Shocks can sometimes 'clonk'. Make sure you pressure clean them properly when washing the car.

4. Car went straight on ice in a tigh right hander after coming over the crest at >75mph. Considering a warranty claim with Misti. The car should not leave the the road just like that.

Try selecting first gear while the engine is running. Gently depress the clutch and accelerate a bit at the same time. This should bring the speedo back to life...

Same happened on mine twice. First time they replaced the sendor unit. Second time the whole wiring circuit up to the dash. Hasnt played up since the 2nd fix...yet!!!

Dont think ive ever even used the rear foglight - will give it a try now though.

16. Gearbox blew to pieces after approx. 4k miles. Never felt right from day 1 tbh.

17. Front brake discs warped after 7k miles.

18. ECU locked itself in safe mode - limiting revs and therefore performance.

19. Oil Cooler pipwork became loose.

20. Front driveshaft started leaking.

However, as with spike, all have been replaced under warranty, by the dealer in quick time - even the gearbox was done within 8 days !!! - so cant really moan too much

21. Got in the car this morning and turned the key......engine cranked over, but just would not start. Checked for faults (including OBD) and found nothing - Not even the smell of a flooded engine. So, I called the Mitsubishi Rescue people (very good service btw) who despatched a technician. When he arrived we attempted to start the car again......and after 3 attempts it sprang into life! Took the car to the dealer, who plugged it into their diagnostics equipment......they couldn't find anything wrong (stored or current). Weird! :loony:

PMSL at the last comment ! :toofunny:

Bad luck it seems, Lee. Sorry to hear that.

Fortunately, you were the one who decided to leave his car standard and get a 340 so you had no warranty issues.

Touch wood, mine doesn't have any of these problems.

Do you use your car in heavy traffic a lot? I am just wondering if the fact that I can always use the car in pretty light traffic so it always 'drives' has anything to do with it. Maybe my car suffers less. :?

...and today, it's done it again!

I suspect it has a fuel pump-related problem......which, is most likely to be the associated Relay - So, I have one on order that should arrive tomorrow.

Currently, it's 'stuck' in my garage! :wtf:
