Hi everyone, new member on here and as is usual, have some questions
I am looking at buying a WR1 and have found one I might be interested in.
Its number is 389, it has the keyring - but no box, no plaque in the car, it has the tax disc holder and mats, driver one being worn commenserate with age/mileage.
Now the questions:-
What should I look for prior to buying?
How big an issue is the missing plaque - to me it seems wrong that it is not with the car, surely its numbered and worthless to others ?
Does anyone know any info about this car - 389 reg number Vu04 HGY ?

Hello The plaque isn't numbered only the tax disc holder. I cant understand why people go to the hassle of taking this off as some kind of momento to owning a WR1.
Don't know if you have looked back the register part of the forum? If not it might have some info?
Only thing I can say to look out for is knocking from the rear as the shockers tend to be a weak point.

Thanks for the replies, sounds (no pun intended) that knocking rear shocks are common with the RB320. I have looked at the parts index and forgot to ask the dealer if the vehicle has the numbered service book, as this appears to be impossible to replace.
I may hang on for one with all of the original parts with it.
I had a look at the register and couldnt find any info, Foley confirmed this, thanks.
This vehicle would be my everyday car, I do about 10k a year, a local dealer suggested that a WR1 would not be the best Subaru for me - but then he did have two RB320s in
Any thoughts on my potential weapon of choice would be appreciatted, what are they like to live with etc, are they in the 435 quid a year road theft band ?, servicing costs etc etc.

RB320 v WR1 depends on what you want the car for.
2 litre is more fun IMHO
2.5 litre would make a better all round car IMHO

£215 per year road tax mate for the WR1 because of the age. I think the RB might be £400 as it is a newer car?! Mega will confirm this I'm sure.
Main dealer servicing can be expensive so I'd look for recommended private garages through people on here... depends where you are.

Welcome to the board Rich.
My WR1 is my daily drive and I do around 8k a year. I do little motorway drivng through the year. No problem for me personally to live with day to day. My wife finds the ride a little too firm so at the weekend if we are out together we are often in her Honda Jazz!

Hi Crockel,
Glad to know that it would be suitable as a everyday driver, I'm in Warwickshire, not too far from Stratford upon Avon
Thought the road theft might be that way, I think I need to try a RB and a WR1 to determine suitability. The RB appears to have 10k service intervals, the WR is 5k I think, so the extra tax paid on the RB would almost equal the extra service ?

Yep, good point, I'm sure I would appreciatte either but would resent 430 quid a year tax on the RB !
