It's still bloody hard. It feels like selling a member of my family Interest from further afield is now picking up. I wanted it to go to somebody from the WR1OC but folks here a bit constrained for some reason. Now that it's gone to a wider audience tonight things are looking more positive.

Gutted fraser, gutted. Truely fantastic car and if I didnt have the 400 then i'd bite your hand off at that price. One proper piece of kit - if your interested at all folks, find the money, it doesnt matter from where, you will not regret. Very envious of that car me. Good news though fraser is what youve got coming in a year or so Hopefully we can have one final blast out together this weekend before she goes - sure she'll be snapped up on pistonheads pritty quick. Oh, good advert by the way. Know who to contact when I decide to sell

I've had a long chat with my oldest, dearest friend. We used to go to boarding school together (no jokes, please!). He has always been the ultra-conservative, whilst I've always been the absolute reverse. Now that we're getting a tad older the roles are starting to reverse as I become more conservative with my family situation whilst he's talking about moving away from his conservative roots and perhaps ditch the 5-year-old diesel Peugeot 406 in exchange for a new top-of-the-range Brabus Mercedes. ...and he can easily do it with cash The conversation that ensued was quite comical. I spent my time trying to persuade him not to buy the Brabus, and he spent his time trying to persuade me not to sell my car. Not because a Brabus ain't fantastic, nor a Type 25 anything less than stupendous. It just came down to one inescapable fact. Which one of us would be happiest? The sad answer is that neither of us would be any happier for the change. I would be like a caged tiger, and still plan to be for a while, whilst he would lose sleep over a depreciating asset. I guess we're all different but in this case I won, for a change! He's not going to buy the Brabus (at least, not until he's done the deed then tell me afterwards). I, on the other hand, have started the ball rolling. Indeed I have a 24 hour boring-mobile test drive right now. It's some kind of diesel thing with about the right number of wheels, in approximately the right place. It has as much plastic as Simon Cowell's wallet, seats with as much support as the Trident Missile initiative, the street presence of an alcoholic tramp, and all the fun of having a canular fitted by a student nurse. It's horrible. I hate it with a vengeance, and if this is where life is leading then I have to think carefully about what gives me pleasure and the release from the work I do. Yes, I can take that step back and be financially sensible. But I'm questioning the end result now. It will make no difference to the care my wife will receive in the coming weeks. It will make no difference to the time I spend playing with my daughter as our family morphs from one state to another. So what will the sale of my car achieve? Well, it will indeed free up a lot of cash, but it's unlikely that will make any difference as it becomes plundered by other sources. And in the meantime what am I left with for myself? Tons of stress, a tough job to manage and, now, no release other than the type of car I should consign to Room 101 - along with myself. Will I be a happier father, or do I sign up to 'Grumpy Old Men' now? You will have gathered I'm having second thoughts. Last weekend I let somebody else drive my car. It was a first-of-a-kind event for me. I sat in the passenger seat, hands calmly gripped in my lap whilst I prayed nothing would go wrong. I needn't have worried. The driver was excellent, and spent a good proportion of his time grinning as he treated my car with care. Being the owner of an already-fast car, the smiles came as a compliment. Afterwards, there came a moment of clarity. If this car goes, what will I replace it with? Yes, a boring-mobile is the sensible choice but will I be any happier? Will I be prepared to wait until such time as I can get back behind the wheel of such an animal? What will happen in the meantime? And then I remembered this guy's smiles. That's what I do. I smile when I drive my car. And when I drive my Type 25 the world's pressures fall away. How can I replace that? Fcuk it! I'm gonna find another way if I can! Wish me luck.

Well done Fraser. My sensible heads says I shouldn't have my weekend toy depreciating away like some 3rd world debt, but as soon as I drive it, it removes all memories of any crap working week. All I do is How much is that worth? Priceless.

Good luck with your efforts to keep the car. I drove your car when it was Iain's demonstrator (before it was new, first time round) and it's what made me buy my Type-25. It is also the car that EVO used in their COTY 2004 (issue 075, which I still carry aound in my briefcase).

Welcome XRS, though I notice you're no newbie as you have some posts already. Do you still have your Type 25 or have you moved on to other things? I too have issue 075 - not because I bought it but because the members here are a friendly bunch who look after each other, and I was gifted it by another member of the site. I too carry it around with me. Sad, no doubt, but it does remain a helpful talking piece when my clients ask what's parked outside. You've no doubt read the ad on pistonheads and thankfully I still have my T25 so everything seems to be moving in the right direction so far. Thanks for posting !

Yes, I still have mine - I tend not to change my cars too often (I had my STi IV for 5 years and before that my 3-door Cosworth for 11). And what else can come close to the package offered by the T25? Pleased to hear that things are working out and you've managed to hold on to the car. In my experience most Subaru owners don't know what it is (despite having a T25 number plate), let alone members of the general public so we've got ourselves a relatively stealthy beast. As you're no longer selling, I'll post a couple of mine if you don't mind
