On your standard turbo you have an internal wastegate which routes gases back into the exhaust system when it dumps.

Once you get onto bigger turbos you can still have an internal wastegate but you can also have an external one which is better at monitering boost on big bhp turbos. As it is external it can't dump gases into the exhaust by the usual route so you have 2 options;

1; Screamer pipe which is a small lenghth of pipe of the waste gate that directs the gases down to the bottom of the engine bay & into the atmosphere, when it dumps its LOUD hence the "screamer" pipe. Sounds fantastic :D

2; You can route the gases back into the exhaust system by having a pipe of the wastegate route ito the exhaust so that it keeps the noise down as the dumped gases are expelled through the exhaust so silences the noise produced.

Screamer pipes are lound so watch noise regs on track days if you do them as you might not pass with one.

thanks for the reply mate I am fitting a
twisted turbo kit with big turbo.just wondering wat the difference was.
am I right I'm thinking the only difference is the sound it makes? No performance gane ?
Will it get picked up on a trackday as it won't ne heard on the static or drive by ?
thanks again

Yep noise is the only thing , no gains either way.

Depends on track but some moniter noise track side depends how strict they are.

P.s project sounds interesting bud 8)
