Knock Nkock

Postby Joe » Fri Jul 15, 2005 8:26 pm

Who had a thread about a strange Knocking coming from their back wheel.
Mine has sterted doing it on the left hand back side. you can only hear it when going slow or in revers but it occurs at the same point of resolution.
Any ideas.

The boy 90 is even funnier when you are out on the beer with him! That was the best night out in Northampton that I have had in a long time. Shame about Ray_Cock_Li!

Ray is on holiday :thumb:

Joe, seek advice from a dealer as some of the 03/04 STI's had a problem with the rear shock/strut which would lead to the clanking in reverse or under hard cornering.

Joe,

Need to take my scoob in for a service this week and want to get those shocks sorted.

Did you get any advise from your dealer on what the problem was ? I would like to explain straight away to the dealer what the issue is and what to do.

Getting it done here is always tricky as: it's probably the only STi he's ever seen, warranty needs to be claimed back from Subaru UK and he's 60 miles from where I live... Plus there is a bit of a language barrier.

Any advise from other people is also welcome !

Thanks !

Sandy

:noway:

I read somewhere that you had to make sure they replaced them with specific dampers that did not have the same problem than just replace them by the standard dampers.

Shoot the dealer.

Yes.

DO NOT REPLACE WITH STANDARD UNITS

There are modified units available from IM, your dealer may not know this (probably not), get him to phone IM for details.

Had the modified units fitted & no problems since.

Thanks !

Who's then supplying these shocks to IM ? Which make are they ?

Why does IM, who's supplying the shocks I assume then to their dealers, then not always supplying these 'proper' ones to the dealers for cars like Joe's ?
If the normal ones have a known fault, IM should know it will cost them more in warranty by not supplying the proper ones straight away.

Weird people...

I guess it stops them from having the embarassment of a product recall. Just wait for the customers to start complaining to their dealers.

Well my scoob sure drives as if it's on crutches at the rear

What shock absorbers should I ask for if I call IM ?

"hey guys, mine are faulty and I know you supply cr@p ones and good ones to your dealers, can you please send a set of good ones to Finland ?"

Now I think about it... oil in shocks might have been frozen during our last trip to Lapland... Maybe that's what caused it.
