Is it possible to get the standard ecu re-mapped or do you have to buy an after market ecu?

I thought they were a brand new ECU, so how do they work? do they overwrite the existing data on the ecu? is it worth doing anyway with or without mods, because i have been told that there is more power avaiable with a remap on the standard car. Subaru have to work to guidelines and rules for emmisions and fuel economy. What am saying is (if above makes no sense) my car is standard if i get a remap would i be able to eek some more power and i can get a remap without having to buy an expensive aftermarket one, i can get the standard one remapped.

A remap on a standard car will give you a little more power but wether you think

It would mean the end of your warranty, so think of that too.

I had a bit of a run against a remapped one when i had my standard car. There really wasn't anything in it other than the fact i was

i was thinking of getting a panel filter or a induction kit aswell as replacing the exhaust. If i was to carry out these mods it prob would be more worth while carrying out a re-map after.

you will be better off with a panel filter if you dont fancy a TEK3

some induction kits will make the car run dangerously lean (APS CAIK) , but all of them make them run leanish.

It pains me to say it but i agree with Bro

Having said that... I know a man who has changed the headers, fitted a APS CAIK and gone for a FUL decat without a remap!

wont be taking advantage of any of the new bits though, and possibly causing damage.

If i were personally to use do any of those mods i would be fitting a knocklink and gauges to monitor things very closely.

I was reading some info on scoobynet, and on there alot of people were saying that just changing the panel filter was better than an induction kit. They would produce similar power gains (panel filter a bit more), but the way the power was belivered was better with the panel filter.

i had mine reset, and it feels a different car [might be all in the head so], i ran mine in like the book say's not over 4k rpm, when you think that the ecu learns how you drive, it learnt that it was not going very fast, so by having the ecu reset, once the oil is warmed up, a very spirited drive will have it learning this type of driving instead of the previous miss daisy driving style,
at the last rr day, mine got 341 and 325.

I am a nats chuff (very small) away from buying an afterburner vortex centre pipe and back box. Is it worth while getting an ecu re-map or some tunning places have said yes get it done or some say there is no need because it still has to go through the cat in the downpipe. I dont want to damage my motor. What do you nice people on here say? or what have people done to there car?

My wife will also kick my arse if she finds out i what to buy them!

just put the vortex back box on mine, like you do not want to affect warrenty, until it has finished and then the wife MIGHT let me start adding some engine mods. :thumb:

No need for a remap if your replacing a back box.

StiJoy,

How does it sound? is it better than the prodrive back box? did you just replace the backbox? not the centre pipe? I was thinking of just replacing the centre pipe just to remove the resonator so as to release a bit more noise from the prodrive exhaust.

Just replacing the back box wont increase any more power will it? does your car feel any better or different after fitting the vortex back box.

Am so tempted to buy one still have time on my warranty though not good![/quote]

i would say it makes it sound better
when i met mick c last fri, when i went past him he said that it sounded nice, and i must admit i like it a lot, not changed the center pipe, not that brave, i do not think it will give you more power, they say 5-8bhp more but i am not sure on this score, i am also worried about warenty issues, so will have to wait until this expires

But now you have changed your back box thats your warranty out the window already is it not, i suppose its easily changed so you could go back to the prodrive box if anything happened.
