Postby wr1dan » Thu Jul 13, 2006 4:45 pm

hello people !!!! i was thinking of chippin my standard wr1 :)
wot sort of power gain will i roughly get from just the chip??
or do you have to have a de-catted exhaust with a induction kit to benifit from the chip???
also they say the wr1 does 0 to 60 in 4.25 seconds :omg:
i seem to leave my clutch behind when i try and dont think its near 4 sec.
also they say its top speed is ltd to 155
mine goes off the clock and my tom tom says 164???
it would be good to here someone elses views on this
thank u :D

It's already been "chipped" by Prodrive. They took a standard STi and "chipped" it from 285 bhp to 316bhp. You could get more but the more power you get the less reliable. Prodrive decided 316bhp was the best power they could get and retain enough reliability to still offer a warranty. I respect that.

You need to be stupid brutal to get anywhere near the 0 - 60 figures quoted. Accept you never will and be happy that your 4.25 sec car with you driving will get to 60 quicker than your mates 5 sec car with him driving. Although you will actually take 5.25 secs against his 6.5 secs.

Who says they're speed limited? Check the archives, there was a comment by Mike Wood about a year or 18 months ago that IIRC said the restriction was removed as part of the WR1 chipping. My old MY02 car (PPP STi) was on the limiter in 6th at 154mph so I couldn't tell if it was the rev limiter or a speed limiter. With 18" tyres the 1 should get a tad more speed at the rev limit than that.

By the sound of your 'driving style' you should choose your modifications carefully otherwise you will pop it.

There are various bits and bobs you can add on to achieve a bit more boost etc. but its not a renault 5 turbo and any upgrades should really be accompanied by an increase in fuel etc.

As imposter says the best way is a Ecutek remap. You put all your go faster bits on first, then take it to be mapped properly. the mapper will use software on his laptop under licence to 'break' into your ECU and adjust al the relavent parameters.
