just another question on oil
earlier in the year we went down to cornwall, we called in at opie oils, as i wanted to get some more 10-40 silkolene pro s,
i ws informed by the main man that i should really be using 5-40 instead :?
when i was going round bruntingthorpe in aug, i noticed that my oil temp was between 115 and 118 :?
now as i am going to be going to the spa, ring trip next year, am a little bit concerened that this might not be the right one :?
would it be better to go back to 10-40, or would you reccomend something that is good for every day driving, and for when you get on these circuits :?
thanks :thumb:

the 5/40 is subarus recommendation for a new age standard car under normal driving conditions. For the classic its 10/40 because the bore/piston clearance is greater.

If you are using the car outside of standard operating parameters and achieving oil temps that high you would be advised to go to at least a 10/40. This will still be ok at winter cold starts as well.

So if you cant be bum to change before and after a track day you want min 10/40.

I was getting 110-115 at Brunters on 15/50 and a new age bottom end but obviously i am making more heat than you with 400 BHP+

For your information, i suffered a big end failure at 118 degrees

If you are using it on track then yes put 10/40 in. If you dont (and your car is standard) stick with 5/40

It has no ill affects swapping between grades.

If you want to be a fanny - put in 50/50 of both, believe it not you get 7.5/40! make sure they are the same make and type of oil though
