Engine Light is on!

Postby Anders_WR1 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 8:30 am

My engine check light came on today driving to work. No activity on the knocklink, although the cold weather did cause a boost spike to 1.7 BAR on the Defi's at point.

I have noticed the 0.5 BAR restriction isn't in place even thought the engine light is on...is that because it's been remapped?

Any bets it's the MAF?

I'll be calling the dealer in a minute to get it checked out.

I've had this a couple of times on rather spirited drives when the air has been crisp. I never noticed a problem since the car didn't go into safe mode. You will find the engine light will reset itself after three starts of the car!!

What gear where you and at what revs?

I booted it in third gear, changed up to fourth until letting off around 6k because of traffic in front.

Ok, just started the car four times and the light went off :suss:

May be that slight over boost triggered some safety mechanism that is disabled if it doesn't see the same condition after three or four starts?

A similar thing with engine check light happened to a WRX that came out with us last Sat. He changed down from 5th to 2nd  and the car went up to 9,000 rpm briefly. Engine check light came on, although when I met him the next day he said it had gone off by itself.

I call the dealer and let them know it's gone off and see what they say.

Cheers

Anders

The dealer said a temporary fault condition would allow the engine check slight to disappear after a few engine restarts. He suggested I see how it goes over the next couple of days.

It was probably a bit of overboost caused by cold weather I recon.

Ann mine, but i would still get them to read the codes just in case. I;m sure there are a lot of sensors that could fail or be playing up that don't necessarily put you in safe mode.

No problems on the way home. I'll be carefull next time I'm booting it at 2C (and snowing).

Bro, are you on the standard map? I never had overboost problems before I started modding...

theonly time I had the warning light and sae mode was on a really hot day!!!

If you've just been mapped GO BACK and get it looked at...during colder weather my cars always ran "better". if it was -32 like where sandy is I can imagine problems with the cold/as he experiences with overboosting.

Id make first call your mapper mate!!

No mate, standard car. That reminds me, there was something that had to be replaced on the wastegate that caused my engine light to come on. Marky Mark might remember what it is called?

Is that the part that you said was a two min job to replace? If so, that was the fella. Can this be picked up by the ECU?
