Defi Gauges

Postby danr55 » Mon Apr 23, 2007 10:56 am

would someone (maybe Mark) like to talk to through what i'm looking at?

i've got oil pressure, oil temp, and boost

i'm guessing oil temp should be around 90 before any ragging, what temp should it not go over? and boost and pressure?

I let it get to 80 before i go over 3K RPM. set your warning light at about 110. After this it's time to let it cool down. If you don't have top quality oil in i would set it a tad lower.

Pressure is dependant on grade oil you are using. At 90 degrees youi should be at around 5.5-6.5 bar under load, and about 2.5 bar at idle.

Boost, i'm not actually sure what the target boost is of the 2.5 STi's, and i'm presuming yours has been mapped so you need to speak to your mapper.

the 2.5 pistons don't like going over 1.3-1.4 regularly though.

Maybe you could let us know what readings you are getting?

Which is your favourite piston?

around 6 give or take a bit on pressure.
temp goes to around 95-100 or normal driving, up to about 103ish when giving it plenty, not entirely sure about boost, around 1.4 i think but need to look properly...

It does not take a great deal to look at Dan. Press peak on your controller and it will give you your max figures. If it gives you a silly boost figure don't worry immediately as it may be a spike, take it out for a drive and see what it's getting normally.

I pressed Bro's yesterday and it was about 1.7, im sure he does not get that all the time though.

Attention to detail.... It was 1.6 (which I believe you claim they over read by 0.1) thus accounting for the overead one would think it is spiking at 1.5. Quite rightly I don't get 1.6 all the time... It seems to happen more frequently when maxing out in the higher gears (4/5/6)... It usually holds 1.4 and slowly fades away.

What oil temps did you reach on Sat? Mine reached 112 on the way to the pub.

Mark, is 110 the limit for oil temps? Do I need to start thinking about an air oil cooler?

I had a failure at 120 degrees so i tend to knock it on the head at 110-115. I only ever get this high on track though and i only have the standard modine cooler.

Taking your undertray off helps with a few degrees if you are concerned

The oil manufacturers will tell you the oils hold good at 130 plus but people who i respect have said thats a big no-no!

Undertray is off since the FMIC went on. I think the FMIC has increased oil temps slightly by about 3 Degrees.

I'll keep an eye on it and fit an air oil cooler if I see 110 to 115 on a regular basis.
