MOT - Passed today

Postby WR1 Bro » Wed May 16, 2007 2:29 pm

Got in early in case there were any warranty claims!

I was told they could technically fail our car because it is significantly louder than a standard car? Is this true?

To which I replied, I could technically knock you out because you are smaller than me but that would be unjustified... a bit like failing a car on the sweet Blitz noise!

Yes, your exhaust does not carry a BS stamp, and is labelled not for road use. Hence they are quite within reason to fail it.

I don't recal seeing it labelled "not for road use"!! I thought this was a scenario connected to motor bikes and not cars?

You might have a point actually, but it will not have a BS stamp so officially it's not legal.

This also makes all the kwik fit type o.e replacements officially illegal as well but hey ho - those are the rules

I think you can get a MOT done upto 28 days in advance allowing you to get the extra days tacked onto your new MOT.

I don't think there is a legal limit to car exhausts unlike bikes. I am going to look into this further because you can not allow a MOT station to subjectively measure exhaust noise without a calibrated ear.

96/97db...but no roadside test would hold up in court because of so many deciding factors as the noise reverberates off buildings/passing traffic etc etc.
