What colour are the PFF7 alloy wheels?

Postby MY498 » Mon Apr 14, 2008 6:37 pm

I,m thinking about having my alloy wheels refurbished as they have one or two minor scabs on the outside edge and having asked a local company to take a look Ive been told they are unsure about the shade and the alloy appears to be a cross between silver, grey and anthracite? and they will try to match them as best as they can but cannot guarantee an exact standard colour match. They also said that any colour pigment was just added to the dry powder coating prior to application and they did,nt actually wet spray paint them as such? So even if I gave them a paint code it would'nt help. Adam at Autotechnica has suggested a Mercedes paint colour thats very close to the orignal shade. I just wonder if I'm being too fussy and if anyone would actually notice anyway as long as they were as close a match as possible? I dont know whether they need to be powder coated or painted but either way the wheels need the unsightly scuffs removing from the edge. Any thoughts guys???

They are "pewter" in colour

This seems tobe the only official pewter from subaru, but be warned it's not prodive or speedline

Adam held the Mercedes colour chip against one of my wheels and it was pretty damn close. His mate was supposed to be refurbing my wheels a few weeks ago but due to a problem at his mates garage they didn't get done :(
Hopefully I will be seeing Adam later this week so I will chase him up about it because he said they should be able to mix the paint to match the original colour.

Wheel paint code

Postby Mike Wood » Tue Apr 15, 2008 7:28 am

Unfortunately there isn't a paint code for any of our wheels that makes any sense to someone repainting them. The way the wheels are painted during manufacture is different to how a bodyshop would paint them and as a result the codes they have for the various paint schemes aren't interchangeable.

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike,

Can you explain how they are painted?

Had mine done by these: http://www.pristinealloywheels.co.uk in midlands which is a complete refurb, refit tyres and balance. They do a collection system via tyre dealers but I chose to do the delivery etc. as fairly local.

They did a colour match but as Mike says the appearance is a little different to OEM but very good job nevertheless.

You can get a paint code and Speedline corse looked into this for me same answer as Mike. So don't bother.

If you've curbed the rims they sort all that out, no filler, but if you've only got minor probs I'd get local guy to it, simpler, cheaper.

I solved the problem of taty in need of refurb wheels for me today, i'm just back home from a trip down to Glasgow to pick up 4 brand new PFF7 wr1 wheels fitted with Toyo ProxesT1R's(stickers are still on them) that a boy of Scottish Scoobies(sidc) was selling. He bought them in December had the tyres fitted then never got round to fitting them & is now trading the car in so put them up for sale. These wheels have never seen a hub of a carl & i picked them up for the bargin price of £900 for wheels & tyres 8)

Chuffed to bits as mine are in a bit of a state after this winter, going to use the new set for summers & get the old set refurbed & use them for winters. Contemplating getting the old ones refurbed in a slightly darker colour than original not by much maybe just a shade or two darker as i like the contrast of colours when the wheels are darker with dirt.

Not fitting the new wheels till i've ordered a tub of rim wax & give them a good coat of the stuff, aim to try & keep these set as pristine as i can from the start.
