Hi,
Have been planning to upgrade the ICE in the Scoob for a while and as it was a reasonable day I thought I'd take the plunge.
I know there have been some posts about this before but I thought I'd share it anyway.
The car is a WR1 and totally stock from an audio standpoint.
The front speakers I have chosen are Infinity reference 6510cs' (90W RMS, 270 Peak).
Okay they're not Infinity Perfects but they were sixty pounds on Ebay (new) which I thought was a bargain.
Reviewed the posts on SN and saw the MDF spacer debate. Couldn't be arsed to start cutting MDF so I managed to find a good shortcut.
Autoleads produce a speaker adapter kit for the Vauxhall Astra/Vectra which I found to be a near perfect fit, the kit number is (SAK-2902) and it cost around twelve pounds from Halfrauds.
Anyway here's how it went.
Step 1 - Followed Chiark's guide for removing the door card:
http://www.chiark.com/scooby/icetoc.asp
Step 2 Removed the stock tweeter and modified the mounting, replaced this with the new Infinity tweeter.
Step 3 Removed stock subwoofer, removed stock speaker connector and replaced with standard terminals.
Step 4 Remove the plastic sheeting and Dynamat'd the whole subwoofer area.
Step 5 Coverded the Dynamat with the plastic sheeting and trimmed Dynomat to make door stud holes visible
Step 6 Cut hole in Dynomat for subwoofer and installed the Autoleads speaker adapter.
Step 7 Connect new Sub and screw into speaker adapter, end result looks something like this.
Step 8 Check that the window can be lowered fully and perform a sound check.
Step 9 Re-fit door card and check the speaker is not fouled.
Overall I'm well happy with the result, a massive improvment over the standard speakers for minimal cost.

Phase 2 will be to install the new Sony MEX-1GP head unit (due next week).
Phase 3 will be a full boot install with 2 x 12@ JL audio subs and an Infinity 6 way AMP.
Cheers
Steve
