Whilst we're on the subject of mudflaps......
'To flap or not to flap??' I must admit i don't really like the thought of fitting mudflaps to my new toy. I tend to think they spoil the 'lines' of the car. So I was wondering what the view of 'the masses' was. If they're not fitted will I end up with pitted lower paintwork down the sides? If that is the case I'll get some - but I've heard you can get 'shorty' or 'mini' sets perhaps, rather than the 'full-on' rally style. And therefore not so obvious. Has anyone fitted these and do they provide enough protection? TTFN
You can get them but only seen them on classics don't know if they'll fit newage cars. Prodrive make them, quite often see them on ebay just do a search for "subaru prodrive" & have a look.
Fitted them, and so did pooster. It's easy but you need to remove the wheels, makes it much easier. Also, you got the choice how to fit them. Some hang the 'low' by using the upper holes to fit them. They claim it looks better. The issue in my view is that you easily get them caught at curves and they stick out less of the body (sidewards). Mine were hung 'high'. This made them shorter and made them stick out sideways more. The advantage was that they would protect the sides of the car better against stones etc. Which was my objective.
Some say hang them high, some say hang them low !!!! Be proud of them and hang them low and mean rally car style bigger the better
I had the Prodrive ones fitted (low) until recently when I reversed against a kerb and pulled the rear offside one off
I usually take them off for the Summer because I prefer to see the '1' from most angles without them. Although the rear view with them set low does look As The Swede says take the wheels off to fit them, otherwise you'll find yourself fffing and blinding for a lot longer.
Hi presa
Its canny but i ripped off my nr side black prodrive mudflap off. Did you buy another pair ? have you still got another nr side flap as i need one or are gonna get some maybe we could get pair between us or somit Always try and get to B from A very Quickly !
Mud FlapsPut my set on last week same style same supplier........AWESOME
had braided hoses and brake fluid change so wheels were off and on they went
Yes Woz I was gonna speak to you about this when I see you at the RR. I haven't bought any replacements for the rear yet, and I remembered that you had done the same to the opposite side on yours. We can therefore split a new set for the rear between us if you're up for it
On rallycars, they also stick out to the sides more, which is what I tried to achieve by hanging them higher. Driving in Scnadinavia meant the underside of the front doors got peppered with the gravel they put on the roads to provide grip on ice. After 1 winter, mine looked as if somebody had used a sandblaster on the underside of the doors (which is very curved). Hence my objective to protect the sides as much as possible. Looks like we need... bigger mudflaps !
tut tut !!!!!! hung em low to start with, then fitted exe-tc fitted them high ! did'nt want to rip em off, even now they still rub the floor. but lower the better even thought sweede is right the higher fitting does protect more ! 2007 BMW M5

so whose gonna have the new ones ? 2007 BMW M5

How do people always rip their flaps off ?
I use mine in Finland and always rub against piles of snow etc and never got one taken off.
have you booked spa yet?
Snow won't grip the flap like concrete kerbs do, the flap traps between the kerb and wheel and then gets pulled under the car tearing it off just below the fixing
Well learn the length of your vehicle and don't reverse upto kerbs ! I know it's smug but its the reality of the situation. Or fit some female reversing aids.........beep ..........beep.... beep....beep..beep ..beep . beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep ouch ! 2007 BMW M5
