Road trip UK-Finland (26-28/12)Drove the thing back to Finland.
Left on boxing day, 3pm. As the trains don't work in England, even few days after the snow has molten away, we were put on our first ferry of the journey. At night driving through Germany. We don't get that in UK
Is it still far Papa Smurf ?
No, not very far anymore Third ferry of the trip, Helsingor-Helsingborg And then, my 'home country' ! Sweden ! Long roads... Very long roads... Boooorrred ! And Spike knows what I do when I'm bored:
And after a good 2000km, we finally arrived, 45 mins before the departure of the ferry in Stockholm.
Stupid thing: The Swedes grit their roads Finally ! The opportunity to relax for 11 hours
Finally ! Finland.
With its ungritted... ...and very busy roads Last edited by The Swede on Wed Jan 06, 2010 12:34 am, edited 1 time in total.
Actually good that the roads aren't too busy as overtaking is like a game of Russian roulette.
An example: Catching one... First look to see if we can overtake: Nope ! Another try ! NOPE !!! Third try !
A stop over on the road to meet a friendly WR1oc, member.
CAVEMAN's hospitality is really exceptional: he straight away let me his Russian girlfriend !
On 28-12, we finally arrived in Oulu.
We stayed two days, swapped the tyres for some brand new rubber http://www.nokiantyres.com/tyre?id=12091290&group=1.01&name=Nokian+Hakkapeliitta+7 And drove off to Lapland to celebrate the New year here. Empty roads. Except for the occasional 'child crossing the road' Last edited by The Swede on Wed Jan 06, 2010 1:56 am, edited 1 time in total.
Really had good fun.
But I got really cold hands... So here is the pic Stu' will now download and bring up every once in a while:
Awesome road trip mate....can't believe just how often you do this back n forth. 3 days in the saddle takes it out of you for sure and you still had the energy to do my Mrs for me when you got here!
Its a heck of a trip and even in cruising mode I bet you contributed heavily to the share price of Shell. I know I did to the tune of over £800 on my way back last time. Best conditions for any Evo or Scoob...its what they were built to do and developed on. If you can drive fast on these roads, you can drive fast on any surface. You are welcome back at any point buddy...and that goes for anybody else too. Although I can't guarantee you'll all get a jump.
Enjoyed that write up Mr Swede, think you should maybe sell the evo and put some cash towards a decent sized pad tho
The WR1 be safe in the knowledge that, short of strapping yourself to an Acme rocket, there's no quicker way to get from A to B.
1st class photos mate!! Great road trip
[Just incase this gets lost in translation, I am not slandering you, I know people can be sensitive to these harsh words.]
True. But I only spend every other weekend in Oulu during the school year and during the holidays Hannu comes to us, so it doesn't really warrant investing in a bigger place. Also, if my ex wife moves, and hence Hannu moves, I'd have to sell and get another one. Big hassle.
Thanks ! Defo need to meet again. Fuel is actually OK. The Evo is much more economical than the scoob. My old STi would do 16mpg on such trip and 11 in normal conditions This one does about 28-30mpg on this run and about 16mpg when I play locally.
Very good write up mate, They go karts look cool
How much milage is on the evo now with all that traveling? Focus ST's rule!!!
that looked fun. i have a mate who lives in kristianstad. we went over last may then headed up to gothenburg, ullevi stadium to see AC/DC. what striked me the most was the roads. nice pics.
Approx 31000.
I bet ! I really don't know what they complain about but I just went outside to get the luggage in the car and it's -36C. Cold when you're in a T-shirt
typical finns....they saw an 'outsiders' car coming and changed the prices quickly! Do it for all Brits and Russians mainly.
