Yep, mine's a Daily Driver. Only 4 miles out and another 4 back. Need to give it a run at weekends otherwise it would always be running round in choke mode... I'm sometimes lucky to get 190 miles to a tank.. and thats over 50 squid now !
use mine most days done approx 11,000miles in 9months, thats what its there for to be used, plus use it as work car too

Not that impressive, R32's are nothing to rave about IMO, one of the most disappointing cars I've driven - loads of torque to about 60/70 then nothing after that, my old LCR felt ALOT quicker.. Going round corners just got a whole lot faster...
done 3500 miles in 9 months. mine lives in my garage although i had it down to st andrews a couple of days ago 190 mile round trip roughly for 60 quid of fuel - -- Bargain........... NAT!!!!

Yer the "chipped" mondeo ST diesel is for the missus to cart around all the kit needed for an 8week old baby. I use the WR1 daily for the commute. The problem is I look at diesels and end up looking at the 3.0 and 3.5L engines that I can chip to get decent torque from... then when you look at their economy they arent that much better than a WR1. The best consumption diesel engines seem to be under 2.0ltre so getting an Audit 3.0 TDI Quattro or a Beema 535D wouldnt save all that much in fuel the way I would drive it... Maybe I should look at something like a smart car - that must be economical even if you drive it like the clappers... lol
all depends how you drive. consider taking the mondeo and seeing how much you could save. not saying get rid of the one but long term it could save you quite alot of pennies. 2.5quattro A4 3weeks ago was amazing on fuel on long stretches. comfy ride 180bhp so it pulled when needed without being that heavy.
and for a diesel to stick with an R32 i think is decent..
Don't let the Scottish boys see this otherwise they'll be promoting surer-glue AGAIN... [Just incase this gets lost in translation, I am not slandering you, I know people can be sensitive to these harsh words.]
Q Eck The WR1 be safe in the knowledge that, short of strapping yourself to an Acme rocket, there's no quicker way to get from A to B.
Oh my god you sound like the wife "could save a lot of pennies" etc... Well I found that the mondeo is about as economical as the wr1 on short journeys, it doesnt seem to be all that great until it gets warm. The trip says averaging 33mpg. To get 58mpg out of it you need to stick at 60mph on the motorway. Cruise control seems to kill mpg too as it consumed more doing a slower speed through that 10miles of specs 50zone cameras on the M1 than it did at a constant 60...weird... I think for short journeys a small engined petrol car is about as good as a diesel as they are lighter, get warm quicker etc... Having gotten used to the 4wd I would prefer a 4wd diesel for work and not an off roader which leaves the Golf 140bhp TDI Quattro / A3 Quattro /or A4 Quattro without getting into the A8's which are like driving a barge. As for beating an R32, diesels once they get going keep up with a lot these days. However if VW can only manage to squeeze about 250bhp from a 3.2L engine I think its a bit poor really and doesnt really make me say oh wow you kept up I was reading the other day that the new subaru 330S has S-i-drive which lets you make it run more economical on longer journeys. But at over 30k for a car that in my mind isnt all that great to look at its not ideal. Especially when you think what you could do to the wr1 for that money. Oh just a quick note about modding, it costs around 6k to get the WR1 to 400-420bhp ive been told by RCM... if u go on autotrader you can pick up an RB5 modified to 360bhp for that money which beggs the question is it really worth it?
lol fair point mega.. but admit its good to see a one get used like a proper CAR not just something to look at... getting sick of staring at the 1 in the garden..
So if you use it every day what milage is on your 1 mega??

i use mine now and again only if i think i will be able to "use it" i dont bother use it to nip into town or long motorway drives. not what it is for.
I have an astra coupe bertone lima rossa (longer title than the bloody wr1) for dotting about in though not brilliantly economical 2.2 litre petrol. i have luckly at the moment the keys to a 911 carrera to use when i want although rarely me and the misses take it out as her mum and dad are away and trust us not to break it as last time they left if for 3 months we had a fecking job getting it running as battery had been cooked with trickle charger so only take it out if really dry and dont push it mind you the wife does I am lucky to have loads of great roads near me to play on though. not as good as some of the lads further north. although i am planning a trip up to tongue this time off and going to take the wr1 up...just rude not too! Lairg north is one of my favourite roads anywhere 40 miles of single track to play on, last time i met 2 cars at the end that was it. just had 40k service - got it with 18k on the clock 2yrs ago i think
6k that you will never get back lol!! worth it if your putting it on a track , but then you will want 500 bhp and a full engine rebuild lol where does it end ? got to admit im still tempted to let rcm do there magic and then i think do you really need 400bhp for the road and then i think that money could go on a focus rs or nissan gtr lol
i wish i could afford a daily commute car
Surely with the fuel the WR1 costs you you probably could mate? I've got a faded red mk4 astra 1.6 for a runaround, cost less than a grand and gets 300-350 miles to a tank - you go into "grandad mode" too cos the seats are like armchairs so you just tootle about everywhere Going round corners just got a whole lot faster...
Ah well if its got a "grandad mode" I will offer you £500 for it Anyway... how come its faded with you being a detailer and all.. thought all your cars would be on top form (Starts to trawl Autotrader for "grandad mode" style cars)
Haha everyone says that! It's a cheap run around so other than looking after it mechanically I dont really care about the outside, I'm too busy doing everyone elses! The WR1 gets all the pampering so I've none left for the Astra
Going round corners just got a whole lot faster...
and if you get a faded red one like mine you can remove the wheel trims and drive everywhere like an undercover cop car
Going round corners just got a whole lot faster...
Sunshine then yes a gust of wind or rain nope, fair weather car, daily commute 2004 avensis, pipe and slippers car.
