had my car on the rolling road today for a health check not good only made 260brake and 195 torques.it was only boosting 0.5 bar i think the normal is 1.4bar although i am not sure.the guy told me that it was more than likely the 3 port boost solenid valve is not working and the wr1 has a different one that is fitted to the wrx sti models so it would be difficult to get a new one of these.they suggest fitting a greddy boost controller should solve the problem so it should go like it should
anybody else have the same problem

Doesn't sound good! Mine had a Turbosmart boost controller on when I had it, and that had it's own boost solenoid I think. The standard one is back on now cos I didn't like the Fast & Furious lights and beepers all the time.
There are a few WR1's breaking on eBay, might be worth a phone call or two?

Me too.
I've seen cars pull hardly any boost on the rollers and still perform on the road. Have you driven it along side a comparable car?

That and RR discrepancies need to be ruled out

60bhp and a hundred torques is a fair discrepancy! Don't rolling roads need to be calibrated and that?

Have you checked that you have the correct turbo on it?
I had a similar problem when I bought mine and never realised until I got it on rollers... it was putting out only 265 and after many hours of searching a technician noticed the turbo was a WRX TD04L instead of a VF35!!!! Later found out the engine was a new engine but Subaru (under warranty) had inadvertantly put the wrong turbo on but nobody noticed!!!

If theres a problem and the ecu's cutting the boost to the basic 0.5 bar to protect the engine and you put a boost controller on it wacking the boost up to 1.4 bar and taking away the control of the boost from the ecu guess what could happen? yep you could blow the engine, Your best sorting the actual problem rather than trying to go around it, I would start by checking all the pipes going to the boost control solenoid are pluged into the correct places and not blocked etc then give the boost solenoid a clean with carb cleaner, reset the ecu and retest.
Ant,
Had an my99 uk classic,
Then got P1 (0329),
Then got a brand new WR1 (092),
Then got a my00 UK Classic,
Then got another P1 (0488), Now Sold.

thats for the advice
my mate has a hwakeye sti with a pro drive pack on it and left me for dead so i think its definately not boosting right.havent had a chance yet to look and see if its the correct turbo on it or to take the boost solneid off to clean it anybody knows how to test them to see if its working or not.
the boost controller comes with a new boost solnied valve but as you say just whacking the boost up wouldnt be good if the ecu is trying to stop it.
i have had no lights come on the dash to say that there is fault.
the car has a full decatted exhaust on it and i assume the car has been remapped as i was getting the health check done the fueling was ok,if i reset the ecu would it go back to the factory settings or go to the remapped .

Dont worry doing an ecu reset wont alter the mapping.

I've watched them testing an actuator at Scooby Clinic (with someone threatening Jacky Chan in the background ) and it was VERY risky... the valve wasn't holding at the correct bar (this one was 2 bar) but they said that whilst on the rollers if the boost got too high it would blow the engine!! They clamped the valve closed so it couldn't release pressure and it turned out the release valve was faulty.... I woulnd't recommend you try this on your own ol
I think checking the turbo model is worth it... the boost problem is a different problem to what I had though, that does sound like an actuator or possibly a fuel pump issue (or both)....

if anybody has the same problem after a lot of searching i got a new 3 port boost soleniod valve from a place called rallysport direct.com in america for $85 plus postage for the pierburg valve and wiring harness as fitted to the wr1 .HOA IMPORTS do the valve for $66 without the wiring harness but the website is under construction and you would need to phone them to order it
