Sumo's new motorAs a few of you already know I have been looking at a new motor, after a lot of deliberation we have chosen the discovery. A very good motor, the downside is that the '1 will have to go aswell as the volvo which has already gone. Obviously this was/is a major decision, as I like the '1 very very much, but it does'nt get used as much as it should, so all in all a sad occasion

We looked at one before buying the Forester. It was more car than we needed at the moment but i was very tempted. Too petty to be a traffic warden...
If he's gone for the derv drinking version i found it was giving about 5 mpg more than the WR1. The sales leaflets quoted the petrol one as about 14 mpg My local dealer told me they've not sold a single petrol one yet and don't even run one as a demo car! Too petty to be a traffic warden...

Blobster Ex owner. Now in an Ariel Atom 3 300.
Its a TDV6 HSE, with all the gizmos and gadgets, an ex-demo vehicle thats averaged 21mpg in its life so far. I cannot fault it at all, obviously its no match on perfomance but I've had an indicated 120 out of it.
it was the only vehicle to fit my criteria, ie. 6-7 seats with footwells for full sized passengers, and to tow the maximum 3500kg. a lot of money but you only live once!!!!!!!! Number 12 back with me after a 6 year break.

Mine isn't going anywhere. Turned down a Noble after the performance and handling on track of the WR1 came to my attention!

Just wonderd wether you have done any mods to your suspension or have you got strut bracies fitted as you do track days ect, as i seem to think the car is a little bit on the soft side handeling wise espcially on tight bends when you take them at speed, the car dives a bit. Im thinkin of getting some strut bracies to stiffen up the body roll, please let me know your thoughts on subject. and advise me on which ones you think are any good. Cheers m8. It's a shame that people are having to get rid of their WR1s and it must be a very hard decision to make. Chris and I are lucky in that we each have our own everday cars. The WR1 was always intended to be for high days and holidays so it doesn't matter to us if we don't use it except on weekends if the weather is fine. Rosy B
Woza ... as I understand it Prodrive spent a lot of time testing this car on track and developing the suspension system. For me the way I bought it is the car in it's optimum performance state. Admittedly I would prefer to have a rock hard suspension system put on it to elimate lift and any roll that there is (i.e. Ohlins). However we need to remember that this car is developed as a road going race car. Therefore it must strive to meet the conditions of both of these driving elements. On track it is sensational. And having any strut braces fitted would, I feel, not significantly change the feel of it. The way I see it is that if Subaru thought this car needed any additional suspension bracing - they would have put it on the car from the start. If you are not going to be doing many track days in it then I would say leave it exactly as it is. Hope that helps mate ... all of course in my opinion.
forgot to answer the second part of your question.
Regarding what struts to go for the subaru supplied STi (stainless and carbon) are more than adequate. However Crossroads have a oversized front strut brace which they are selling which, as well as looking the absolute nads (in either gold or black gunmetal) really does hold everything in place. Regarding suspension you would want to be looking at the fully electronically adjustable systems. Such as the one's supplied by Ohlins or Tein. Remember that the prodrive springs we have on the cars are already pretty much top of the line -- so no point replacing with something substandard. Nice looking car Sumo. Can I ask did you trade the WR1 or sell private. In Top Marques recently there was circa 5/6 for sale, the next issue ie 2 weeks later there was not any. Seem to be holding the price.
Not sold yet, still waiting for the reg documents to come back after transfer so sat in garage.

14mpg is still OK ! My wife does 10mpg with the STi... Still, I am no fan of driving around on heating oil.
